Title: Moving Stash to Vanguard
Post by: Farmgirl on June 09, 2014, 06:29:09 AM
Would like to move all of our retirement funds to Vanguard.  I am 55; husband is 60.  New to this website and have been gobbling it up.

Will be FI in 3 years; but are currently in funds that charge more than Vanguard.

Which Vanguard funds and in what percentage would be a good mix for folks our age?  Can you direct me to articles in MMM that could help us?

You may wish to read the investing series at JL Collins: http://jlcollinsnh.com/stock-series/ (http://jlcollinsnh.com/stock-series/). It has a lot of useful information for this sort of question.

These videos with 10 rules might be interesting for you:

Not sure if they are optimal for 4% SWR etc. but I think they give a good overview.

Where is your money now and how is it invested?

Moving to Vanguard or Fidelity usually makes sense, but not always.  For example, you may incur significant capital gains in taxable accounts if you sell funds.  That may outweigh the lower cost benefit.  Also, if you have some excellent long term performers, you may be better off keeping them.
