Dealing with Moving company insurance
« on: June 09, 2016, 12:35:33 PM »
I recently moved across the country. My workplace paid a moving company to pack and ship everything. Hooray. But, between the stolen items and the damage to furniture, the replacement cost is about $13k. I'm insured (ha) for up to $100k in damage, but they are trying to low ball me with about 20% of the cost to replace these things.

So, any suggestions on how to get the max payout for the damage caused by their negligence?

Hmm,

Our damage insurance was quoted at, like $2 per lb of carriage weight, so we were surprised at the very low number we were covered for.  Make certain that you understand the calculation... that $100k could be if the entire vehicle flipped over, but is prorated for partial damages..Also, no insurance coverage for partial damage if you packed that box or loaded that table yourself.

The best bet is to get several local quotes to REPAIR the damage, and ask them for the average of those quotes.  Many people try to get them to pay for the total cost of replacement, but the insurance is normally for repairs unless a complete loss of use

For the stolen items, do you have proof?  e.g., item number 233 "tool box" was loaded, but never received at the other end?   Otherwise, you could be SOL on the stolen items.

Thanks for the info. Mine is insured at $100 a pound. While I would love to get the full replacement cost, it's true that repair is more reasonable. Heck, it if it good as new, thats all I really want.

For the stolen items, yeah, I have documentation that it went missing from the warehouse between the pack and the unload. Hopefully this goes well. I'm most pissed off that the stuff that was damaged was some antique furniture my departed aunt left me.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
