Misdiagnosed ruptured appendix

my son has been misdiagnosed with Crohn's disease; he has ruptured appendix; the hospital prescribed immuno suppressors: prednisone and methotrexate
3 months later 2nd opinion come back as ruptured appendix, they could see big abscesses, very scary. MRI  or CT was urged
due to Covid an MRI could be scheduled after another month; The current MRI shows only one abscess remaining which is reduced
the original doctor recommends just monitoring right now, no other treatment (of course immuno suppressants were stopped)
 
I am very anxious;
I want to request 2nd opinion again based on current MRI.
My son is feeling better , but is not 100% ok

Can't say I understand why they're not operating if his appendix has truly ruptured. I thought that was an emergency situation. My appendix ruptured when I was 7. I spent the day vomitting every 30 minutes, went into convulsions that night, and was taken to the hospital only after the paramedics reduced my 106.9 degree fever. I was rushed into emergency surgery and was less than 24 hours from death. I was so weak I couldn't walk for a week afterward and it took days for me to regain control of my bowels. Three drainage tubes were inserted into my side. It was gnarly feeling the nurse pull 18 inches of plastic tubing out of my insides. Still makes me shiver thinking about it. This happened in 1990.

They had me on all kinds of stuff. I went through bags and bags of IV fluids. Suppositories to force bowel movements. I think Mom said I lost 15 pounds that week. I could barely eat anything. Jello was my friend. I watched the shit out of some Knight Rider though. Haha

How long was he on the immunosuppressants? I hope he didn’t just cold-turkey off of them if he was on them for more than a week or two.

I have experience with prednisone. The first time I came off of it I did a taper, but hindsight makes me realize it was probably too fast and contributed to incredible fatigue I suffered for a number of months. The second two times I was on it my taper off of it was about as long as the actual treatment period I was taking it.

the prednisone was reduced weekly and he was off it after 9 weeks, so he was already off it when 2nd opinion came in.
the methotrexate was cut off, and seems it can be cut off sudden
he was hospitalized for a week, the hospital put him on antibiotics via IV the first 4 days while he had fever; but then his fever came down & they decided is Crohn's; they started prednisone and methotrexate
I just need to know I can trust them now, that they see all abscesses and issues and they follow the correct treatment

I would monitor the fever and you can bring her,him, back in if you have any concerns. Bowel infections are serious and if child had stuggled a bit post I am not surprised,  but if any worse bring them right back , and if you like get a second opinion, probably from a surgeon.

Why are you wasting time asking unqualified internet strangers for medical advice? If you don't trust your current doctors, go find new ones!
