Look at the new replies first then move on to the unread posts?
Have a favorite part of the forum in which you read every single thread?

That's exactly what I do. http://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/unreadreplies/ is my default starting URL for the forum. I almost never view by section except to start a new thread.

I first read new replies.
Then I go to the real estate and journals section, which I essentially never read. I mark them as read.
Then I go to unread posts.

Me too since discovering it. For a long time I would look at each section I was interested in.
-
I start off with "New Replies" and then move on to "Unread Posts" after that.

I right click on DIY and Ask, to open these in new tabs, then on each one scan down for threads I've been following or new threads that I might find interesting and again open each of these in a new tab. Then read through all the open tabs.

Usually naked and drunk, sometimes at home.

I used to view it by all unread, but over the years it has gotten too big/busy for viewing it that way (in my opinion). I now selectively browse 2 of my favorites, and only occasionally look at the "All Unread" to see if I missed something popular.

Note to self: Internet cafes in Canada are much more interesting.
-
I use "Show unread posts since last visit."
I don't ever navigate to specific parts of the forum.
-
I have been navigating to specific parts - but I think show unread posts since last week sounds like a much better way!
Thx iowajes.

I use 2.75 reading glasses I bought at Walmart for $6 for a set of 3.

New replies, unread, and usually I'm at work.

This is brilliant. Thanks for the tip! I don't have too much interest in most of the journals.

I head to ask a mustachian, because i like reading case studies, then i head to general discussion if there is something that happened that i want to chat about.

me too

New replies, then wall of anti-mustachian wall of shame and comedy, then new posts if I'm desperate. Usually at work, wishing I were at home. Sigh...
-
Seems like I'm in the minority by just checking categories mostly.
I usually do (in no particular order) Welcome and General Discussion, Ask a Mustachian, Anti-Mustachian Wall of Shame and Comedy, and sometimes Investor Alley.
If I have an active and recent post, like I do currently asking about housing, I'll check that pretty often so I can reply.

I look at all the unread posts first...quickly skimming for interesting new titles or threads that are relevant to me, or threads where I feel I can be of help to somebody. I try not to post if I'm just going to bloviate, or say exactly what 1,000 others said. Sometimes I blab too much, but I try not to. Then I go to new replies to my posts. I almost always am online at my kitchen table, which is also my office desk.
