Medical Alerts-which one is best?
« on: December 11, 2017, 12:02:40 PM »
My mom is having some health problems. To feel safer at home she is requesting a medical alert button to wear in case she falls in the house. A little research has shown that there are many different brands for this.
Does anyone have any advice on picking one of these?

We use Life Alert. It goes through the house phone line, so you have to have one of those, and ours only has one unit which works well in the tiny apartment. If mom's house is larger, she may need multiple boxes, so that is something to consider. It has a low monthly monitoring cost, and you can set it up to contact you before calling 911. For instance, my grandmother fell recently, but my husband was able to help her up, so they called me, we went to her aid, and 911 did not have to be called. However, if she pushed the button and was unable to communicate to the operator that she was ok, they would alert 911 at that point, and then call me to let me know. It's great for peace of mind. Good luck!
