I need a new mattress. My current one is over 12 years old, and is causing me hip and back pain. For like a year. I just spent a week on a crappy mattress on a fold-up bed on a Carnival cruise ship, with no pain, so something definitely needs to change. I would just go mattress shopping, but...
I have a king bed, and I don't want a king bed. I would start the process of getting a new bed and getting rid of the king, but...
I want to move. I don't want to move a bunch of stuff, so I was planning to dump the bed (along with a bunch of other stuff) when I move and reassess my needs when I get to my new place / figure out what the heck I'm doing with my life. Unfortunately the timing of my move is greatly unknown - I'm waiting for my cat to die to start the process of selling my house because I really don't want to deal with moving with a cat and having her in my new space (she's almost 17 and in slowly fading health, but super stubborn and might just live forever to spite me).
I have a guest bedroom with a bed. Logic suggests I use this bed. I don't believe the king bed will fit in the guest room, and I would like to keep a guest bed just in case I can ever convince one of my parents to come visit me. This is dumb, because I have a giant THIRD bedroom that is basically unused that could be used for bed storage and I could set up the king bed in the off chance I get a visitor.
BUUUUUT - does the guest bed need a new mattress???? Even if it does, it seems like getting a temporary mattress (or "real" mattress that I eventually move) for a smaller bed makes sense. The "upside" of the king is that it's an actual bed with headboard and footboard - it looks nice - the side tables are the correct height for this bed. The smaller bed is just a metal frame. Which is super functional, but will look weird in my master until I get used to it.
So I think I just talked myself into the "correct" answer. Stop being lazy and move beds around.
I came here to get suggestions for cheap-but-comfortable mattress options (ones that would last about 2 years), so please feel free to suggest some if you have them.
