We are recent Sam's Club members (got the membership for basically free with a promo a few months ago). I've only been in the store 3 times, and had not looked at the fresh meat section until my trip last week. I was surprised to see quite a few fish and chicken items that were marked down between 25-50%. They were all 1-3 days from expiry. The reason for my surprise is that I've seen markdowns for meat approaching expiration in grocery stores, but never in a Costco where we've been members for years. My questions are:
1. Is this normal practice for Sam's Club? If so, are there any specific days or times of day that I should look for these items?
2. Have you ever had a problem with the freshness of their meat/poultry/fish? We cooked up the tilapia I bought and it was fine.
The savings were pretty good compared to my local grocery-store prices - I'm intrigued and would be happy to switch my meat buying to Sam's (and make sure I shop on a day when I have time to break down packages for the freezer).
