Lots of trash to get rid of, best way how?

I have a bunch of carpet and drywall to dispose of in the next few weeks.

What is a convenient cost effective way to dispose of all this without driving it the dump with my small car? I saw the bagster as an ok option, 30 bucks for a big bag and 139 for hauling it away.

The best way is going to be figuring out how to haul it yourself. By far the biggest cost is having it picked up. Can you find a trailer to borrow? Or a truck? Even renting a trailer or truck would be great, how about a Uhaul?

And I agree about talking to your trash service, but mine won't do it.

Regular trash service usually has a "large item" haul away day once a month in our area. Might call them and at least ask?

How much is a bunch?

For small remodels, I've gotten away with using the regular trash service, a bit at a time over a few weeks.

For a pickup size load, it's probably cheapest to haul it yourself to the dump.

For a really large amount, the bagster, or a real dumpster might be called for.

If you don't want to haul it yourself, check out Craigslist or a local bulletin board for hauling services.   They can be fairly reasonable - it's a competitive business which has what the economists would call  a "low barrier to entry".

When we replaced a carpet in our home, we put an ad in the paper and sold it for $600 to a person who was going to put the good portions in a mobile home she used as a rental unit.  We had a win-win there.

our local dump charges $30 for up to the first ton, you haul it. we went for the $79 dumpster that was delivered and removed a few weeks later. i would start by calling your local towns trash service or landfill/dump.

I have yet to find anything I could not make disappear using the free section of craigslist.  I haven't tried construction debris, but I've successfully given away broken appliances, dirt, rocks, and tree limbs.  Might be worth a shot.
