Hi :)

My boyfriend and I are very upfront with eachother and we just had a marriage talk. :) Looks like it's in the cards!!

Long story short, I know him better than you do and I know he'd appreciate a bit of direction when it comes to ring selection. I'd like to send him some ideas. For myself, I would like a silver ring, with or without a stone, and I'd like it to be less than $300. If you know of any great places to shop and browse, please let me know! Or share your story :)

I'm totally down for something unique, and I found this example on another thread: http://www.kielmead.com/silver/

I'll thank you in advance for following "Thumper's Rule" (from Disney's Bambi): If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all :)

Much appreciated! I'm feeling very happy.

Titanium wedding bands - buy em on eBay.  Should be well under $50.

We found our silver wedding rings on Etsy for a hair under $110 for both rings. Just search for "silver band sets" or "silver wedding ring sets," and tons of options will come up.

I made my wife's wedding ring from a 196x quarter dollar (90% silver). Took a while, but she likes it!

My original band (with a tiny diamond) is in the drawer collecting dust (should sell that sucker). I hated the diamond prongs as I work with my hands quite a bit and after knocking the crap out of it and breaking prongs a few times I got sick of it and wanted a plain flat band.

Husband and I now wear really pretty stainless steel bands. I had priced them out on Amazon, but one weekend at a flea market, we found the exact same ones for $8 each.

I've had more complements on my band than I ever had on the original.

I have seen some beautiful rings on Etsy, but I'd recommend also checking out flea markets and antique stores. You can find some really unique rings - and they are always open to bargain on the price.

And congrats on the coming engagement!

I like Blue Nice for nice jewelry at decent prices.
I am a former teacher who accumulated a bunch of real estate, retired at 29, spent some time traveling the world full time and am now settled with three kids.
If you want to know more about me, this Business Insider profile tells the story pretty well.
I (rarely) blog at AdventuringAlong.com. Check out the Now page to see what I'm up to currently.

Definitely go titanium... and commercial pure titanium, not aerospace titanium alloy (it's a safety thing - EMS can cut CP titanium bands off your finger with stock equipment, they may have to resort to cutting your finger to remove titanium alloy in a pinch).

As for sites, I know a lot of folks go Etsy or Ebay with this stuff, but the absolute best titanium band maker I've found has been Ed Ferguson at Cascadia Design Studio. We shopped and looked around online and in stores for months, and we went with Cascadia for numerous reasons including interior shape finish. Great reputation and top notch craftsmanship at a very affordable price from a jeweler who's got a long standing track record, especially by Internet standards.

Go with whomever you feel most comfortable, but at least include them in your search.

If you're near Fayetteville, NC, send me a private message.   You can come over and make your own.  I'll show you how.  Cost will be for the silver only (<$40 an ounce).

I picked out my own wedding ring on ice.com.  it is a white gold band with teeeeeeny tiny diamonds in a row (so they don't stick out/get caught)- sorta like this one http://www.ice.com/product/rings/anniversary-diamond-ring-prd_rda_122114.  It was only $250 in 2004, $280 now.  That said, as mentioned earlier, you can get a basic band super cheap elsewhere.  I do like the little sparkle the diamonds give.

I bought my wedding ring from carlacarusojewelry.com .  She has many silver rings under $300, and her designs are very unique and lovely.

The future Mrs. Starswirl and I are talking about DIY wedding bands after I way overspent on a palladium/diamond engagement ring. (at least it wasn't platinum?)

These are the two instructables we were considering :
http://www.instructables.com/id/Sweetheart-Nickel-RingPendant/?ALLSTEPS

http://www.instructables.com/id/Bentwood-Rings/

The first one is literally a 5c project if you've got a garage (it uses a nickel) ; the other looks really easy but gives you rather untraditional wooden rings.

My engagement ring is white gold with tanzanite flanked by diamond chips.  Very pretty, unique, and very inexpensive!  Also our wedding bands are plain paladium bands, they are lovely!  Look like silver, priced reasonably, and don't tarnish.
