Anyone here use the Paypal 2-3% Cashback CC?
« on: March 22, 2023, 05:11:11 AM »
This cashback card gives you 3% cashback when using your paypal account to pay for things online.   And 2% on all other card purchases.

I am considering it but have a couple questions.

Isn't it true that you can pay for groceries in store at Walmart with your paypal account -- vs. swiping the paypal cashback card?  This would allow me to get 3% cashback in store at Walmart?  (i.e. effectively appear the same as an online paypal purchase?)   Contrast this with the Capital One Walmart Credit Card which only gives you 2% cash back in store -- after the first 12 month promotion of 5% cash back in store.  (I realize the Walmart card offers 5% for pickup and delivery, but I won't let anyone else shop for my groceries.)

I've been looking for a good credit card to use at Walmart since my Citi Custom Cash card does not give me 5% cash back despite it always being coded as groceries from a Neighborhood Walmart (i.e. not super center). (Seems unfair to me; they know they sell nothing but groceries at Neighborhood Walmarts but use the excuse that other Walmarts are super centers to justify flat out denying you the 5% cash back.)

In the reviews I've seen of this Paypal Cashback card, I see no one mention how to redeem the cashback.  Do you have to have a minimum amount of rewards before you can redeem ?  e.g. $25?  Or can you redeem any amount at any time?  My current paypal credit card requires like $50 of points before I can redeem, if I recall correctly.

I don't like idea of Chase Freedom Flex and similar cards because I find the rotating categories annoying and overlap with my year round 5% cash back I get on groceries with my Citi Custom Cash card.

I keep getting offers to apply for this card, but it's never been worth it for me.

Do any of your local grocery stores sell Walmart gift cards? (Or at Drugstores or Home Improvement stores if you can make those your top category).  That could be a way to get 5% off at Walmart.

Did you click on the Terms and Conditions for the card?  https://www.synchronybankterms.com/gecrbterms/html/PayPalCashbackApplyTerms_combo.htm

Scroll down to Reward Summary, the minimum to redeem is $0.01.

Thanks for the info. I didn't see the terms and conditions link when I was looking at it. Thank you for the link.   I'll check some grocery stores for Walmart gift cards ty.  Can I do the same with Sam's Club gift cards?

A gift card is a gift card.  I would test it out first, to make sure that gift card purchases will earn 5% before going all-in on this method.  With my Chase Freedom card I can buy gift cards at the grocery store, drug store, or home improvement store and get 5% based on the rotating category.  But I haven't tried it on a Citi card.

I can't speak at all to the Wal-Mart portion, but I use this card for online donations and do the redemption portion every month or two  It is a two part process (redeem cc to paypal account, transfer from paypal to bank account), but it's fairly straightforward and I don't believe I've run into a minimum redemption limit.

General caveat, paypal doesn't have the greatest reputation as far as how they treat their account holders which is why I don't leave any money with them and try to remember to collect the cashback quickly rather than let it build up...if they decide to lock any portion of my account, I don't want anything owed to me tied up with them.
