My current bike trailer is falling apart and can't be used any longer (it's ok, I've used it intensively for about 7 years), and now I'm faced with a dilemma: replace it with a new bike trailer, or spring for a cargo bike? I've drooled over midtail and longtail cargo bikes for years, but always balked at the price, and ended up trying to make my own cargo bike using trailers, used Craigslist bikes, and a ginormous Wald basket, sometimes successfully, sometimes not so much. But my local bike shop has the cargo bike I've most wanted - the Yuba Boda Boda - on sale because it's been their floor model for a couple of years and they want it gone, so I'd be getting it for 30% off.
Obviously, a new bike trailer would be cheaper. But the cargo bike might be more versatile: it can hold bulky loads, long loads, and a passenger or two, depending on size.
ETA: I do all of our grocery shopping (except for Costco) by bike almost year-round, as well as all trips to used bookstores, thrift stores, etc., so I do haul a lot.
Any thoughts?
