OP here and yes I'm US based citizen in Calif. I did look up the lease or rental agreement rules here but there aren't any around firearms if you are a private landlord (with the exception of government subsidized housing then you can't prohibit firearms) so it's up to each individual landlord to add a clause or not. K8nd if like no dogs or smoking. Firearms aren't a protected class like race or gender etc so a landlord can handle it however they want.

Yeah, I am not aware of any restrictions on this issue in California.  You already have a signed lease that does not mention the issue, so it is really up to you what you want to do at this point.

Liability - some states hold property owners liable for third party criminal acts if they ban firearms.  While that is not a landlord tenant law, if you live in one of those states, and ban your tenants from possessing firearms, and a criminal breaks in and injures the tenant, there may be liability.
Source?

Don't have one, and now that I went to look at the state I was thinking of (off the top of my head) to post something in response, learned that I was wrong about what that state's law says, so . . .

Thanks for coming back and admitting you did the follow up and discovered you erred. It's the rare person who comes back and admits a mistake instead of doubling down or moving the goalposts.
