Liberty Mutual Home Insurance - Unexplained Price Change
« on: March 13, 2019, 01:24:27 PM »
I bought a new home owner's insurance policy, scheduled to start next month when my old policy terminates.

I filled out the forms, got an online quote, called an agent because the system force me too.  The agent provided a final price of $599 and took my credit card info. Then I got a charge and bill for $633.  Called to ask what happened, no help, basically said I must be confused about the final price. But I can still get quotes at the lower price.

So I try a second time.  Get a quote of $48 a month, which really means $586.  This time I buy the insurance by communicating with an agent via instant message.  I confirm $586 total policy price at the beginning and end.  And screen shot everything.  This time I was charged $586, but the policy total is $618.

Called again, e-mailed over the screenshots. Still no help.  They don't know what happened, but they are very sure they didn't do anything wrong.  Many excuses about how it must be my fault because I used their online quoting system.  It was a frustrating hour.

Would you cancel the policy because the company seems bad to deal with right from the start?  They are $160 cheaper than any other company we quoted.

Also any guesses about how something like this happens?  I don't care about the $32, I am just frustrated by the after the fact change with no explanation.

Are they applying a monthly fee when it should be $0 because you made the entire payment at once?

Sounds like you are getting the quote then at the very end they are adding on the agent fee for you......that is why they are playing dumb....

could be a difference in billing methods, sometimes you get a discount for setting up recurring deductions directly from a bank account.

You might pay more if paying by check or credit card.
