My girlfriend's sister is currently staying with us.  She just got home a few weeks back after eight months in Australia, but now she's back and out of cash.  Oh, and she just had a giant 22lb ovarian cyst removed two weeks ago, the staples removed on Monday, and can't stand for too long or walk very much right now while things are healing.  Prior to this she was healthy.

Medicaid (expanded in IL) will cover her bills for the surgery (lost her dad's health insurance a few months ago when she turned 26, happy birthday!), but even apart from that she's pretty broke right now (and has a small three-figure amount floating on a 0% credit card).  Her other expenses right now are low but not non-existent.  So she needs work of some sort during her recovery.

Anyone have any job ideas for someone in her shoes?  She was originally thinking of more of a "real" job but her incision started opening a little the other day from walking too much and being too active (taking her recovery a little too in-stride).

In the past she's worked retail jobs like Petsmart, and drove for Dominos for a few years.  Ideal would be something in the work-from-home department, or something otherwise pretty stationary.  She also isn't allowed to lift anything over 10lb right now.  She's very tech-savvy, and good on the phone (mostly fits your typical "hot gamer girl" trope).  Part-time is probably best for her right now, too.

Ideas we've brainstormed since last night (not all researched thoroughly):
Uber (she can drive right now, but it might be too much)
Night auditor at hotel / hotel receptionist
Senior home receptionist
Remote call center
A few "NSFW" work-from-home ideas

Any ideas would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Call center is probably best on that list; I think most entry-level office jobs can end up with a lot of carrying stuff around. Probably best to get some recordable work history.

I think Uber might be too much, especially with you mentioning her incision started to open a bit the other day from too much activity.

In addition to call center, another idea is online customer service chat (text) service. Amazon, for example, has employees that do customer service over a text chatting system. She could do a job like that at home and could sit somewhere comfortable where she wouldn't hurt herself.

As mentioned above a web chat would be a good option, here in Australia a lot of companies ( all telcos, etc) have them . Another option I want to mention and sorry if it offends , is a sex chat operator . It may be not suitable for moral reasons . I have no personal experience :) but did read a few stories about it. No technical experience , just be very open minded :)
Work from home and can be very part time or more hours .
Again maybe a bizarre suggestion but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Start working on going back to school or getting a degree that will help with something with good cash flow later?  Could do online classes or start the application process for a regular degree.

Thanks for all the ideas!

I've thought about this as an option for her, or looking for work with an eye towards her future (her boyfriend just graduated and is about to become an air traffic controller, so geographically her future is uncertain).  She seems pretty unsure about where she wants to go from here.  Maybe I'll show her MMM's "50 jobs over $50k without a college degree" series.

so she has already considered that sort of thing, probably as a supplemental once a week sort of deal for anything "physical" in nature.  Details are a bit sparse though.

I mentioned this sort of thing to her and she seemed interested.  Amusingly, plenty of those services seems to require that you can type 35wpm.  GF's sister, GF, and I are very much millennials, so we're all over 100wpm easy.

Hotel receptionist/Night auditor at hotel will probably be too active for her while she recovers. The receptionists are 95% stationary, but there are always random tasks like checking luggage or trying to track down information and/or items for forgetful customers. Night auditors in particular have to be ready to walk around and take care of whatever comes up since there aren't a lot of staff people around at night.

One of my cousins is a sort of 'gamer girl', and she used to make a little money from playing games while live streaming on Twitch and chatting with people who watched. I think the money involved was very little, but she apparently had a small following and seemed to enjoy it.
