Issue Getting Credit Score
« on: October 18, 2017, 01:20:35 PM »
I have been having issues retrieving my credit score and I am looking for help on how to determine the issue.

A little background:

I have just recently started following this site and browsing the forums and I have found it incredibly helpful and am trying to make some changes financially. I think that I am in a good place but am looking for ways to save.

One way I am attempting to save is to acquire the Southwest Airlines Companion Pass because my wife and I will need be traveling quite a bit the next couple years. To do this, I applied for a Chase credit card. I was expecting to get approved instantly because I believe I have good credit, good income, and haven't applied for a credit card in a couple years. Instead I received a notice that my application was under review. I called about a week later to check on the status of my application and see if there was anything I could do to help accelerate the process. I was told that they had an issue verifying my information and that I needed to send in a copy of my drivers license, social security card, and a recent bill.

I sent these in but it made me curious as to why they couldn't verify my information. I had also been curious about my credit score, so i decided this was a could time to check. I submitted a request at annualcreditreport.com and seemed to have the same issue, it said that my request couldn't be completed online because they couldn't verify my identity. I tried again using Mint.com's free credit report and got the same thing, I entered all my info and got an error that they couldn't verify identity.

So now I'm wondering if there is some bigger issue with my credit or the information that the credit bureau has that I need to get fixed. I'm positive that the information I am entering is correct. The only thing I can think of that would be a problem is my address, I moved a little over a year ago but my driver's license still has my old address, it's been updated everywhere else. I'm not sure if this means the credit bureau only has my old address and that is causing the issue.

Any thoughts on what could be causing this problem or how to figure that out would be appreciated!

Thanks Everyone!

The innocent answer might be that it's the address. Have you tried entering the info, but using your old address? I assume there's a reason why you haven't updated your DL, but it might be time to think about going ahead and doing it.

However, I would be concerned that this could be evidence of (rather extensive) identity theft! Someone could be using your name & SSN to open accounts, etc., in your name. If there's enough false info in there, and especially if they changed your address of record, that could cause you to fail the verification questions.

I don't have any advice to offer about getting access to your credit info in this case, since I haven't had that particular problem before. But I would definitely try to get it resolved ASAP, so you can at least see what's going on with your reports.

Thanks dcheesi,

I sent in a request to get my address changed. I also was able to get Transunion to mail me a report after making a phone call, so maybe when I get that report I can find out some more info.

I'm hoping it is something as simple as the address and not a larger issue!

Also, I did attempt to use my old address on one of the sites and it still had an issue verifying my info...
