Opening up an HSA - any recommendation on vendors?
« on: November 15, 2015, 12:37:59 AM »
Any companies doing promotions on HSAs at this point? Any you recommend?

I currently have my 401K and IRA through fidelity, but also have a taxable account which contains my ESPP shares through eTrade.

Are you saying that your job doesn't have a relationship with an HSA? I'm not sure how that works if you can't deduct directly from your paycheck. I have healthequity btw. Stay away from benefitwallet.

See http://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/taxes/good-hsa-providers/.  If you have enough (see link) with Fidelity already, you could stop looking regarding HSA vendors.

No, my job provides an FSA. My understanding was they can be opened independent of your employer. Is that incorrect? (I also have some self-employed income, though I have not set up a tax entity for this.)

Your understanding is correct.  Even if you contribute through your employer, you can also move the funds to another vendor.

If you meant FSA (and that isn't a typo of HSA), however, you may not qualify for an HSA.  See https://www.irs.gov/publications/p969/ar02.html#en_US_2014_publink1000204025 for starters.

Hey MDM, thanks for the link and clarifying. I am not covered through the work FSA, as I never enrolled, though it is an option at work.
