Alt phone service that works with Verizon phones
« on: August 29, 2014, 10:12:40 AM »
I have read a few post about ting and republic wireless but from what I can tell neither of those will work with our phones that were originally purchase through and serviced with Verizon.

Does anyone know of another low cost provider that will work with Verizon phones or have a work around to use Verizon phones?

As I.P. Daley points out in his exhaustive superguide, Page Plus runs on the Verizon network.  I don't have personal experience, but my sister and her husband have used Page Plus for over a year now (they each have an old Verizon iPhone 4).

A lot of it depends on what phone you currently have. What phone(s) are you trying to move to another carrier?

Thanks for the info about the superguide.

I currently have a Samsung galaxy S3 and Note 3 that I would prefer to use.

I can tell you for a fact that the Samsung Galaxy S3 can move to T-Mobile, as it is a CDMA and GSM compatible phone. I had one on Verizon and moved it to T-Mobile last year by buying a SIM and setting my prepaid plan up online. $31.80/month with tax for 100 talk minutes, unlimited text and more data than you'll use.

Not sure about the Note, but seeing as that is also a Samsung I'd be inclined to say it's good. Never having used one, try this: Go into Settings > More Settings > Mobile Networks > Network Mode and see what the settings are (this is the trail for the S3). My S3 has three options. Global (what I use), LTE/CDMA and GSM/UMTS. If this is also true of the Note, switch it to Global and go where you want.
