International health insurance
« on: March 12, 2017, 05:20:31 PM »
Hi everyone- My wife and I are pre-medicare age and want to move to Mexico soon. The problem is we will need to travel to the states every few months and need a world wide health insurance policy that covers the states. I have researched but cant find much that includes the states. We really just need a catastrophic policy and we are will to do a high deductible but need something affordable.
any ideas would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

The ones I see many expats using here are:

Aetna
Cigna
GeoBlue
MSH

Typically, if you need US coverage, premiums are going to be a lot higher.

You'd have to look into this but I think you can also get purely non-US health insurance and then just get accident coverage for the time you're in the US.  If you had some dread disease, you'd have to go back to Mexico or where-ever to get treatment.

That's going to be really expensive.  Have you considered just getting short term high deductible coverage for the times that you travel back to the US?  I have to believe that would be much more cost effective.  Especially with the killing off of the ACA, these catastrophic style plans should be much more prevalent.  Last I checked you could get something for around a couple hundred per month with a $10k deductible.

Check to see if any of your credit cards have coverage for accidents. My mom comes to visit us in the US (from Europe) and her credit card has coverage for accidents.
