About two years ago I bought a nice dresser (this one (http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/images/products/tarva-chest-of-drawers__0143749_PE303250_S4.JPG)) from IKEA for about $100 or so. I assembled it and put some stain on it, and it's served me well for the past two years. I'm now moving to a condo with built-in closets/drawers and don't need it any longer. I was planning on listing it on Craigslist after I move, but I saw an announcement today that it's been recalled due to the potential for injuries if it tips over.
So here's my conundrum- if I sell this on Craigslist am I obligated to tell the buyer that it's been recalled, now that I know about it? Would it be unethical of me to return it to IKEA for a refund (one of the options they offer as part of the recall) and get 100% of my money back at IKEA's expense? My current thought is to request one of the anchoring kits and make sure to provide it to the buyer when listing it on Craigslist and be as aboveboard as possible to the buyer, but I'm interested in hearing your thoughts!

I wouldn't have any ethical problem with returning it. Just because it's served you well and there isn't an issue doesn't mean the recall is illegitimate.
If you feel bad about it take the ~$100 you get refunded and turn it around and buy more stuff from IKEA that you need. IKEA isn't worried about the recall cost of the materials / refunds so much as the risk of customers' losing faith in them and future business.

Either way is okay. Most people buying on Craigslist will appreciate the heads up but probably don't care about the recall. They can anchor it themselves or call IKEA to get a kit if they have little kids.

I'm frustrated because we were planning on getting some of the TARVA series dressers after we're debt free (10 days!!!). Now it's gone all because parents haven't properly secured the furniture in their kid's room.
So that said, I'm considering putting an "In Search Of" post out there on the local swap shops and craigslist to try and buy one that someone wants rid of now. We live 2 hours from the nearest IKEA, so it could be a good deal for both me and the seller.
Maybe someone like me is out there hoping to find one of the recalled dressers too! And including the anchor package would be sufficient, I believe.
