Ideas for making extra money in a touristy part of town?
« on: March 09, 2016, 11:47:06 AM »
I live in the downtown area of a very touristy area. Trying to brainstorm some ideas for my daughter and me to fund her savings account. Some details:
-just a few blocks from a brand new minor league baseball stadium
-lots of foot traffic through our neighborhood because it's a historic area with lots of restaurants/sightseeing

few ideas I've thought of so far:
stockpiling ponchos to sell baseball attendees if it's looking like rain
hats or other team memorabilia
building a miniature "food truck" for my daughter to sell stuff out of.
Get a cargo bike like pictured, stock it, and sell beer on the street-although might be illegal?

Other high-margin ideas?? my daughter and I appreciate any input!

Conducting walking or bike tours of your historic neighborhood?  You could avoid the need to collect sales tax and/or comply with health department rules.  Create your own maps, historical info etc.

Thanks, also there are a TON of airbnb guests in the neighborhood as well as a target market possibility.

Risky trying to sell beer, that will get you shut down fast. But something I see in a neighborhood here with a horse racing track is selling parking. Figure out what it costs to park at the stadium and undercut this, you're in business and zero expense.

Definitely NOT Beer - want to get your kid arrested?  Seriously, bartenders & waitresses need to be 18 to serve liquor and you're doing it without a license?

Do they allow to take snack foods into the stadium?  Buy & sell individually wrapped snacks (pudding, peanuts, chips, candy that won't melt), fruit that isn't messy (apples, oranges).  If you can keep them cold waters, cans of pop (stock just the popular ones coke, diet coke, sprite, root beer).
Since you're close to home are there very hot days?  Buy a box of "Pop Ice" freeze pops that's about $4 for 100 of those sticks of flavored water and freeze them.  Huge margin on these if you can sell them for say 50 cents apiece.

I don't think Merchandise is a big seller unless you're making some really well made unique handmade items.  Can't really think of a good example.

High margin you say?  Pickpocketing has almost no startup costs.
