Title: Ideas for a Mustachian Birthday Weekend
Post by: MommyCake on April 25, 2018, 12:01:11 PM
Hi All!  So I have a birthday coming up, and for the first time since having children (2 year old daughter and 3-1/2 month old son) I will have a babysitter overnight!  This means my SO and I will be able to have our first outing in a long time.  My issue is, I don't even know what I want to do!  I have not had this amount of free time in ages.  My first thought was to spend the weekend at home sleeping A LOT and organizing the house (we still have boxes unpacked from when we moved in 2 years ago).  However, I just know I will be kicking myself later if I don't use the time for something fun, because who knows when another opportunity like this will come along.  So my second idea was to spend the night in this somewhat famous "haunted" hotel, but they seem to be closed for renovation.  I don't want to spend a ton of money, and I just don't have any ideas coming to me.  I'm in North Jersey so NY, PA, maybe even CT would be feasible.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

A 3.5-month baby and you are getting a night away? I am amazed.

I vote for a nice hotel someplace close. You don’t want to spend your precious hours of relaxation on the road. Kick you feet up, get a couple’s massage, drinks, a nice dinner... remind yourselves what being an adult is like. Ahhh

I also vote for a nice room in a hotel hotel or inn or BnB (search groupon or airbnb for deals), with dinner out. Spend time together with no chores, enjoying each other's company and uninterrupted conversation/card game/movie.

If there is something specific you'd enjoy doing together, I'd choose the destination on that basis. Birdwatching? Art museum? Tour of Fallingwater or Winterthur? Ghost walking tour?

Hotel sounds nice, but I'd not go too close. At least go out of your usual area where you live and work. Else it will not feel like a getaway and you'll be thinking about work/chores etc. Also make sure you don't  wear yourself out the day before to get everything in order. Else all you'll want to do is sleep early.
