Poll: Best way to time the market!

This poll is a joke. I'm just getting sick of the "there's definitely a downturn coming so I'm going to stay in cash" threads.

Well, there definitely is a downturn coming.

That fact is potent elixir for the nattering nabobs to qualify their special delusions as grim, pragmatic realism.

Remember the Red Dow thread from early last year?  OP posing as tough guy just telling it like it is about the inevitable drop in the market on certain days of the year he designated as turning points.

I found it amusing as he clung to his thesis through everything as the destined May 10% drop not only didn't come early but didn't come at all.  October though; coming in October for sure.

The best time to "time" the market is after the fact.  You will be 100% right.

OR, right after I've bought or sold because prices WILL change.

Yah, sure, there's a downturn coming, followed by an upturn, then another downturn , then another record high, blah x 3. The best part about being invested for the long haul is that I just don't have to GAF what's going to happen next.

And if the market goes completely to shit? We have real estate.
Still shitty? We have cash.

Meh, next topic please.

I'm sure we'll some some kind of correction/crash in the future, and although it feels like it could happen any time, it could be a year or two or more from now.  The only thing I'm doing to prepare for it is to hold off on a sabbitical I've been wanting to take.  I would like to wait another year or two to see what the market does.  My biggest fear is taking a year off (no income) and then the market going down and not being able to buy into it.

Other than that, not much I can do.  I did move about 25k into my guaranteed fund in my workplace 401k.  But, that is pretty small %.  and I've wanted to go into something like bonds for a while, as I was about 97% equities.

I'm still working on a way to make money off the fact that whenever I sell a stock, the price shoots up. ;-)

As we all know from South Park, you cut off a rooster's head and throw the body on a roulette wheel.

Detailed description of supplies, storage location, and preferred defense mechanism? Asking for a friend.

Personally I'm bummed that there aren't options for a stock-picking monkey or something like that. I vote for updating the poll. :)
