I have $200..
« on: August 07, 2019, 05:31:02 PM »
..that I got from my insurance for accruing a certain number of points; given for being healthy and active.

The issue with this gift is that it is offered through a digital visa gift card. No physical card is an option.

So, what should I buy? Should I buy anything now or let it sit? What would you buy with $200 that can only be redeemed in online stores?

I just bought a house, have +60K in the bank, and no debt. Nothing that I need to settle up with financially.

You could buy a physical visa gift card and then go to Wal-Mart and buy a money order then deposit the money order in your bank account. Turn $200 in somewhat-encumbered money into about $195 in your bank account.

Or if you use amazon for anything, just add to your gift-card balance there - you'll eventually use the money on something from them, and you'll lose nothing to fees.

Buy tools so you can DIY stuff at your new house.

I bought a swivel for my trapeze with my health bonus visa card. I only got $100 though. There's $1.01 left on it and I'm at a loss.

My health insurance has something similar with the option to get an Amazon card - do you have the same option? Because you can get just about anything from Amazon. Otherwise I'd use the card online at Target (free shipping if you have a red card) or Kohls or for household stuff that I need.

Buy your normal groceries for 2-3 months, and invest the unspent money.

I have the same issue with a £100 Amazon voucher. The first £70 were easily spent on socks and underwear, earplugs, vitamins and gear for my bike. Most of it was stuff that I needed to buy anyway, but had been reluctant to spend my own money on. Do you have any items like that? Things that you've been putting off buying?
Now I'm stuck with £30 more that I'm not really sure what to do with. Thankfully the voucher doesn't expire!

Since you just bought a house, I'd use it to get physical Lowes or Home Depot gift cards (or your local equivalent).  Amazon, as mentioned, is another good option since you can get just about anything from them.

I would just sit on it till the next time I need to buy something online. If you don't normally buy things online, you could use it for groceries or advance Christmas shopping or make a charitable donation online.

Update with spending so far:
$100 Amazon registry for a Friend's wedding that is coming up.
$29 for codecamp so I can learn Python programming.

Thanks all for the recommendations!

I got the same thing from my health insurance provider. I paid the phone bill 5 months in advance.
