I had unbelievable performance! (excel help, please?)
« on: March 07, 2018, 04:08:17 PM »
Attached is a graph of my performance for the year. The giant spike in the blue line is because I rolled over an old 401k.

Is there a way to show just the market performance, without showing gains from contributions?

IDK what the different colors represent, but here's one way to do it:
Add a row or column (parallel to your currently graphed data, under or next to) that includes your contributions.  Then another row or column with a formula to calculate the change in value excluding the contributions.  Then use the data in that new row or column to update your graph to include it.  Ta da!

Is Calculating personal returns - Bogleheads helpful?

Yeah, that's it. Not those spreadsheets exactly, but I'm stealing the formulas from them. Thank you!
