Car tire issues - help dealing with dealership?

Basic gist of the story: at the beginning of April, we bought new summer tires for our car (a 2011 Honda Fit).

This week, we brought the car to a (different, but certified) garage to switch to winter tires, and have been informed that the tires are worn down and not good for another year. I actually made them measure the tread in front of me, since that seemed ridiculous, but they're right: the tires are worn down enough that they aren't actually safe and can't be used for another year.

So now I'm calling the garage that sold me the tires in the first place (the dealership, yes, I know, ugh, but there were Reasons... just be assured we're not going back there ever again). I'm expecting them to, at the very least, replace the tires as defective, but... what are my options, here? Car people?

It's usually not problems with the tires that cause uneven wear. Usually it's the car's alignment. Did you do a four wheel alignment when you had the tires installed? That's really important.

Second, if the tire inflation wasn't right, you'll have faster wear, too - overinflated will cause uneven wear in the center, underinflated will cause uneven wear on the edges. If one tire was low and the others not, it can throw off the balance of the car and cause uneven wear on all tires. Finally, if your car has any kind of suspension problems, you can get uneven wear.

I wouldn't bother going back to the dealership, I'd work with your current mechanic to fix the underlying problem, get new tires and consider it a lesson learned.

The alignment was done (and paid for, and on the bill and therefore proveable) when the tires were installed. The inflation was right, and verified throughout the summer. And the car was inspected and passed with zero problems last week, including the suspension. So... I have no idea what the issue could possibly be.

(And honestly, I've had issues pretty consistently with this dealership, this just seals the deal as 'raise hell and never go back')

My next thought (since it sounds like inflation/alignment was okay)...  I am not entirely sure this is something I'd take up with the dealer.  I think this is something I'd take up with the tire manufacturer/warranty.  (You might have to go through the dealer... but that's not who would be responsible IMO).  What was the warranty/mileage rating on the tires? 

I would think this would be pretty straight forward.  Tires normally have both time and mileage warranties.  It sounds like you probably didn't make either and would get either replacement or some fraction of usage credit.

What is the tire brand and model?

How long were the tires supposed to last?

How many miles did you actually put on the tires?

Are all four tires worn out? Are they worn equally, both as a set, and are the treads evenly worn on individual tires?
 
What is the tread wear rating from the tire sidewall?

At best, expect a pro-rated warranty. They will give you some money off another set of crappy tires.
