Our house is very dry in the winter. I'm considering getting a power humidifier attached to furnace. The estimate is just under $1000 which seems too high for me just to be more comfortable a few months of the year. Should I just buy a few room humidifiers or is it worth it to get the whole house one? I'm currently a sahm thanks to accumulating fu money based on the advice I've read from these boards. I'd hate to dip into it for something that is not necessary. Any input is appreciated. Thank you

I put in a Honeywell whole house one two or three years ago, around $200. If you are handy, it's pretty easy to install. Soooo much better than filling portable ones.

I have a passive humidifier that attaches to the return plenum of the heater and is plumbed up to the water supply which turns on when the fan kicks on. I think it was around $250. Keeps the house in the upper 30's% moisture during the winter. I love it and will never have a house without a whole house humidifier.
