Title: HSA reimbursement
Post by: PatronWizard11 on January 18, 2016, 07:36:28 PM
Can I use a credit card of choice for medical expenses and then simply just do a reimbursement for those cost at a later date once my funds match that amount?

This is our first year with an HSA. it will get $200+ put into it every 2 weeks and her employer will put $1500. So it will be maxed at the end of the year (Family Plan)

BUT right now there is only $201, since we just opened it. What if I have a bill tomorrow for $400. Can I use a credit card, pay the credit card off with after tax money and then reimburse ourselves once the HSA reaches $400? Or does the amount have to be in there first before getting that medical bill?

thanks

Yes. In order for reimbursement, the HSA only has to be open at the time of your medical payment. Keep a copy of the receipt where you paid & you can pull that money out at any later date.

awesome, i was 50/50 and am happy with the answer.

i plan to combine this with a 2% cash back rewards credit card and save even more if possible.
