I need to bring a crockpot to work later this week and have been biking to work most days lately. I really don't know how I'd manage to bring a crockpot on my bike but if anyone has done this or has any ideas I'd be open to trying. Otherwise I'll probably just drive that day... =]

Strap or bolt a milk crate to the bikes rack, then see if the crockpot will fit in it.

It doesn't strike me as a very difficult thing to do. If it fits in one of your panniers, stick it in and take it that way. If not, strap it down securely to whatever cargo rack you have. One of those wide "porteur" style front racks would probably work best, but with adequate use of tie downs a rear rack would probably also be fine.
You could also use a trailer if you wanted, but it seems a bit excessive unless this is a truly giant crock pot.

It is actually quite a large crock-pot so it won't fit in one of my panniers. Worried about just strapping it down since the lid does not lock on but I like the idea of attaching some sort of box/milk crate to my rack and hauling it that way.

I have done it with bungees and a rear rack. My crock pot has a Velcro strap to hold the lid on, so that was not an issue.

You didn't say if the crockpot was full or not :-)
Assuming it is, can you beg or borrow a cargo or kiddie trailer, put it in there and tape the lid down?

The lid will probably fit more securely turned upside-down. I would probably be drive. But maybe if it is not too far or too bumpy and you use All The Bungie Cords.

If it will be empty, put a towel between the pot and the lid.
If it won't be empty, put 4 or 5 layers of plastic wrap.

If no food in the crock pot, you have some good suggestions above.
If the crock pot has (presumably hot) food in it...well, this is what cars are for. I wouldn't even consider riding a bike with a full, hot crock pot.

If it's full and hot? I would put the food in tupperware, and haul the clean crockpot. Gives you a lot more flexibility on how to pack it around.

Just to clarify it would be hot and full.
I also don't have any friends or neighbors with a bike trailer.

Expanding the topic: At my workplace we take turns bringing lunch once a week, and we own a group crock pot. People bring food in big ziplocks, dump it into the work-crockpot. No hauling your own crockpot back and forth. We like it.

Similar suggestion, but I'd stick the tupperware containers into a cooler, wedge them in place with towels or something, and then lash the cooler firmly to the rear rack of the bike. If a little spills this way it's an easy cleanup, and the food will stay warmer. A backpack is much more difficult to clean when you spill foodstuff in there.

Simple solution.
Go to the bike store and purchase a crock pot rack for your particular model of bike and crock pot. Also purchase the AC generator adapter so that your pedaling generates power then plug the crock pot into the outlet provided to assure warm food upon arrival.

Yeah if this is weekly or something? Buy a second crockpot and keep it at work. At least around here, they aren't that expensive, and you can find them used. Then you just take the food in sealed containers and stick it in the crock there.
