Bicycle helmet mirror recommendations?
« on: July 02, 2016, 12:06:43 PM »
Ok, former MTB'er here, I have recently gotten a cross bike. I am now riding a lot of rural roads and would like a mirror to see approaching trucks, dog's etc. from behind. Pretty sure I don't want a mirror for the bars as I still shred some single track and would bust it off on a tree. Started my search on Amazon and there are a ton, so I'll ask you, what do you use? Also would like to keep it aroung $20 if possible. Thanks

Never found one I liked, went without, and now don't feel they're worthwhile.
On rural roads you should be able to hear anything approach, and look back if you're interested.

Put the mirror on the handlebar. Get one that clamps on and off. The ones on helmets shake too much, and are more distracting than useful, I think.

I tried and tried to like/use the one I had. I finally tore it off mid uphill ride recently. It was really annoying and for how much I had to move my head to use it I just figured I'd check my blind spots manually. It was one of the highly rated ones from Amazon.

I use a drop bar mirror (on a road bike).  That way it doesn't stick out, and also isn't on my helmet (for the reasons the others specified)

Do you have a brand/model you like best?

Seeing as I've only ever had the one, I lack comparative information to help out.  I'm also not sure there is much to differentiate them?

Based on the shape, I appear to have a "Sprintech Drop Bar Mirror".  That being said, the place I bought my bike (which I trust) now sells the "CycleAware Bar End Mirror", so both seem reasonable to consider.
