life is hard work and it's easy to fantasize about grass on the other side.
but if we drop everything and move there will be challenges over in the new place .  I'm trying to practice gratitude for what we have right here and now and stop reading too much into future

Yes, but here the skies are sunny and the sea breeze will be kicking in soon. Kind of worth the brown grass.

I take a situation, and evaluate it for:

1. Have I been arrested?
2. Is anyone I'm responsible for dead?
3. Does my mother still love me? 

If 1-3 all == TRUE, then the core fundamentals are intact and the current unpleasantness is temporary.

I sometimes think my neighbor's grass looks better than mine. When I look at mine I see every dead blade and every imperfection. I'm able stand right over my grass and see this, while from that same position, theirs looks immaculate. But, when I walk over to their grass, I see that they have the same imperfections in their lawn that I do. When I'm in their yard, suddenly I can't see the imperfections in mine.

Everyone has challenges. Men, women, children, animals, whatever. Just because you turn things upside down and change your situation doesn't mean the challenges will go away. You just have to figure out a way to realize that.

Life is pretty good for many people living outside the US too.

And for many, many people in the US, life isn’t pretty good.
