How to get copies of deposited checks
« on: December 15, 2021, 05:08:11 AM »
Hi,

My bank was merged with another bank and now I can't check the history from before the merge happened.  I need to get copies of deposited check for the past 2 years. Stupid me I didn't keep copies of them. There aren't any more than like sox or seven in total. Does anyone has any ideas besides talking to the bank or going back to the people who gave me the checks?  Is there any other way of getting them?  My question seems stupid, I know, I can't think of anything else I can do, but I've been very impressed with the creativity of people on this for forum.  If you have any ideas what I can do, please let me know.

THANK YOU!!!

I can think of two things you might try:
1.  Contact the new bank, explain your situation and see if they can access old statements from the previous bank (my statements have copies of checks on them, I don't know about yours)
2.  Explain to the entity asking for copies of the checks what your predicament is.  Loan underwriters can have some flexibility, so they might agree to only copies of checks above $5K.  They might even agree to a letter detailing why that information is no longer available to you and what the check were written for.

Realistically, if you qualify for whatever you're trying to do without the income from those checks, the underwriter should be able to ignore those.

Thank you. I called the bank customer service (rather than talking to someone at the branch, who was unhelpful the day before when I asked for this) and they said that the merge wasn't complete yet and none of the statements were transferred yet and it would take 2 more months to see them. But she was able to put a request for them to just find the checks and send me the copies for free. Normally, they charge for this but because I'm from the other bank and I'm affected by the merge they waived the fee. I got the copies by email last night. So, that was awesome. Thanks for your suggestions.

Awesome!  That's good news for the rest of us that don't keep perfect records.  It's a shame the person at the branch wasn't notified that the merge was eventually going to make those documents visible to you.
