Who wants to join a mastermind group?
« on: October 02, 2015, 10:03:28 AM »
Who else is looking for a mastermind group as they work on starting their own business? I've decided to start one and I'm looking for members. You should be at a beginner level, where you've just started to make money from your side business or you're hoping to soon. We'll meet by phone, so location isn't important (but we'll keep time zones in mind when we set times - I'm in EST.) If you're interested, send me a message and we'll chat! In your message, please answer these three questions:

(1) Why do you want to join a mastermind group? (2) What do you want to get out of a mastermind group? (3) Where are you in your business(es) right now?

I've run across a lot of MM groups, it's a popular thing in real estate investing, so I've done a fair amount of research into them, and the best ways to structure them, and have an Evernote folder with some various articles on them and such.

I never saw the point to doing it for professional success--we were already near enough to FIRE, and on the exact path we needed, for it to be pointless for that purpose.  I wouldn't mind being part of a smart group of individuals for a more personal, rather than professional, purpose.  Like a mastermind group for self improvement, or something.  It's just fun talking with other intelligent individuals, and learning from each other.

Fun fact: Ben Franklin had a mastermind group called the Junto.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Junto_(club)

I am a former teacher who accumulated a bunch of real estate, retired at 29, spent some time traveling the world full time and am now settled with three kids.
If you want to know more about me, this Business Insider profile tells the story pretty well.
I (rarely) blog at AdventuringAlong.com. Check out the Now page to see what I'm up to currently.

That's an interesting idea! I never thought of doing one for personal development. Maybe you should start that. I bet you'd get a lot of interest on this board alone. To be honest, if I was near FIRE I probably wouldn't do it either, but I'm still a long way off, so starting my own business feels like a good idea right now.

I'd be interested in joining a group like this. I'm a software developer by day (also in EST), and I'm trying to start a side-gig, but so far I've found some fatal flaw in everything I've started. Right now I'm working on a web app that would help small businesses that re-use stuff from the public domain find material. I'm pretty hopeful about this one, since it's B2B software. I'm trying to build a very minimal MVP before showing it to some potential customers for feedback. I've also dabbled in writing ebooks and craft-related business ideas, but haven't finished any books or put anything up for sale yet.

I see myself transitioning from a full-time job to working on a small collection of side-gigs, rather than full FIRE, so getting at least one profitable side-project started while working is really important to me. But I struggle with staying focused. I'm hoping that having some like-minded people to share progress with would help with that.

Mareofmidnight, I'll send you a message and we can talk!

Eyem, it's great you're interested! There are some good threads on here about starting side businesses. You should check them out! I don't expect much discussion on this thread, since I'll be having private conversations with each person who's interested. But if you want to start a side business, check out the link I posted. It could be very helpful!
