How to dress your kid for winter biking?
« on: June 29, 2017, 08:24:29 AM »
So, a little background: we put our son in daycare last year when he was 1 year 7 months old and he's been catching colds and flus and coughs on a regular basis ever since (he's 2 years 4 months old now). And now that it is winter, people started pressuring us to stop taking him to daycare with a bicycle, because it's too cold, and breathing cold air and being cold (I don't think he is actually cold on the bike) is supposely making him sick.

So, does anyone have some advice on how to dress a toddler for 10-14°C (50-57°F) temperatures, on a 7km (4.4 miles) ride, without making him sick?

Obs: for the ride, he's been wearing several layers of clothing with a winter jacket on top. By several I mean 2 light pants (one is part of the uniform), one t-shirt (uniform), a vest, a light jacket (uniform), socks and the already mentioned winter jacket. Now I'm considering getting some sort of scarf to cover his mouth and nose and perhaps thicker under pants.

Obs 2: We scheduled a visit to an allergist-pediatrician, to check if those colds and coughs have a allergic background or, if they were exacerbated by an allergie.

Am I underdressing him? For comparison, I ride the bike using shorts and a T-shirt, but I'm exercising and also, I consider myself a mild winter creature, so that's kinda my medium.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
