Title: How to benefit from large purchase
Post by: FastStache on January 17, 2015, 01:18:44 PM
I have purchased a solar water heating system and pool heating panels, and I'm trying to figure out what is the best form of payment, as I have the cash in my account.

I'm going to ask if I can pay with a credit card to get some nice perks. Does anyone have a card with good perks?

Also, what if they don't accept cc or charge me 2-3% for using one? Are there other ways to get some cash back, etc.?

If they charge any fee I would write a check. We run all purchases and bills through our Discover card. We get 1 percent back plus up to 5 percent on certain categories and shopping links through their site. There are likely better perk cards but we have had this one 20 years.

If you have the cash, ask for a discount for paying cash (via check, so you can prove you did pay).  For high-dollar items, they might have already built the 3% credit card processing fee into their price if the majority of their customers pay via credit card.  Worst thing that can happen is they say no.
