Blog Startup
« on: January 19, 2017, 09:24:24 PM »
Hi everyone, cornerstone79 here and I am a longtime follower but first time poster. I figured I would take the leap and join the group that has substantially changed my life and given me the strength to embrace a journey (and I do mean journey) to financial success. I do have a question about starting up a blog of my own. Writing is something that I enjoy doing and I would like some advice on a relatively cheap and efficient way of starting up a blog to share my journey of pitfalls and successes in my path for financial independence. I would like to do this for a couple of reasons. First being that it will keep me focused on my journey and the other is for possible future income possibilities. This is not something I will be depending on to pay my bills, rather to possibly give me a little extra to really attack my student loans. I certainly understand this type of income does not happen quickly however I recently finished Grad School and would like to start another journey. I have read quite a bit about Blue Host and Wordpress working well together. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My advice would be to read what other bloggers have to say about it.  Then reach out broader to what makes a good blog, how to promote it, etc.

You will find this post interesting: http://whitecoatinvestor.com/state-of-the-blog-2017/

Jim Dahle does this annual "state of the blog" post every year, too, so if you go back and look at prior years' posts, you can get a really good picture of how one person has done fantastically well.

I started up a blog using Bluehost as the provider and Wordpress as the platform.  At the time Bluehost had a nice deal where I paid a pretty low rate for three years of hosting.  They've also given me good service when I've had questions or problems.  I'd give them a recommendation.

Wordpress was very easy to install and set up and there are lots of great plugins (many of them free or very low cost) to add lots of functionality.  With limited experience I set up a Wordpress blog that is connected to a Mailchimp mass mailer that mails subscribers when a new post is submitted, got Google AdSense and Media.net ads up and running, and have other plugins installed to create some pretty slick tables and graphs as well as search for public domain images to use in posts. Though I haven't used them I know there are plugins to do other major tasks such as taking credit card orders, set up a forum, etc.

It's not an easy task to find some quality content over the internet. Nowadays, the internet is so messed it's difficult to find some niche to the point content. If you want you can consider the below links to get some useful information-
