how much exactly is the Discover card cashback bonus?

This is ridiculous, but I can't find the actual amount listed anywhere on the site. The only info is that there *is* one, and *sometimes* it's 5%.

Yep, 5% back on rotating categories (right now it's Amazon.com and something I don't care about, don't remember what) and 1% back on everything else.

Occaisionally Discover has mailed me special offers to "spend $X,000" over 3 or 4 months with a HUGE bonus, but haven't seen that in 2 years...

The 'more-on-everything' cards don't offer 5%, or I'd use them.  Discover has Amazon at 5% for 6 months this year, which is pretty awesome. :)

Ah, I misinterpreted that.  My best "everything" cashback card is my Priceline Visa (2% back).

The Sallie Mae card's limits are 5% back on $250 of grocery spending per month, $250 of gas station spending per month, and $750 of "bookstore" (includes Amazon.com) spending per month.  My GF has one too, so you can double each of those numbers for a household.

Well shit, that sucks.  Glad I got in before the door closed.  I guess good deals don't last.  We'll see how long my card keeps giving the same rewards...

This is also not well publicized at all, but if you shop online, you'll want to take advantage of bonus points through the shopping portal, Discover Deals:

You can stack points, too. So, for example, the 5% rotating bonus is at department stores. If you shop through Discover Deals, you get 5% cash back at Macy's. In total, you could earn 10% back by stacking both bonuses, since Macy's counts as a department store.

I love my Sallie Mae card... Though Amazon tempts me too much already...

Plus on the cash back side, you can turn it on for gift cards for, example, $45 in cash back for $50 gift card.  If you would shop there normally, you get to "double dip" on your cash back.

I just re-signed up with mine.
It is flat 1% on everything
5% roting, like gas for a few months, then discount stores, then fast food, etc...
and random huge % savings, like 25% off at papa johns for the month or something.

This quarter it's 5% cash back on Amazon.com, Sams Club, and department stores. Everything else is 1%. I love my Discover It card!
