Very interesting spread! I think I may settle on keeping around 10k of expenses in cash, because I'm a bit of a wuss, but still thinking. :)

I've got over $100K in cash, but that's because I'm staying cashed up for a potential property investment. If the share market takes a big tumble, I might just divert the money into that. At least here in Oz, my cash account attracts just over 5% and is in my low income wife's name so tax is negligible.

We have close to $30k sitting in various basic savings accounts, though some are sinking funds for taxes (I'm self-employed) & planned expenses. I prefer having a bigger cash cushion because my income is quite variable month-to-month. I'm working on smoothing out my income so we don't have as many highs and lows but until we do, I'm unlikely to do anything differently.
