I think you're good as long as you're working this system the traditional polygamist mormon way where you have a big tract of land (farm or something?) that requires a lot of manual labour.  Get the kids and wives to work as slaves for a while and you're golden.  Could probably ER entirely on the output of their labour.

The "traditional polygamist mormon way" is to have all the extra wives and kids on welfare.  They call it Bleeding the Beast.

Don't be an ass.  Being a wife does not make one un-Mustachian.  A feminine role in life and marriage does not necessitate extravagant spending or poor financial choices.

There are many women who are excellent wives and mothers and not just a drain on a man's wallet.

The article state clearly that all of those women are wives and mothers and employed, each contributing to the household finances.

I know way too much about them, but ended up doing a little more research to get more concrete details below.  In brief, while they all contribute to the household, it is not as much financially as the article portrays.

Jobs
In Utah:
#1 Meri used to have a part-time (or low paying, don't recall which) job which she was fired from when she went public with her lifestyle
#2 Janielle had a thriving business or job and was the most economically sound of all of them, bringing in real wages
#3 Christine was a stay at home mom
#4 Robyn had a job she gave up when she moved to marry the husband, Kody
Kody had a job and worked.
After the move to Nevada, they struggled, using up the retirement money (and show money).  They've capitalized on the show with a jewelry line, which it's unclear how successful it has been.  They tried to start a gym, which didn't really work.  Janielle got a real estate license, but Christine flunked the exam.  (Not sure if Christine later passed or how successful this has been.)

Public Benefits
Christine received public benefits even after filming began (able to obtain them due to no job and official single mother status).  Robyn has said she's received public benefits.

Bankruptcies:
Christine 2010
Kody and Meri filed 2005
Janielle 1987

But of course, they live a mustachian lifestyle otherwise...with Cody's fancy car habits...
In the big family world, the Duggers are quite a bit more mustachian, with fewer adults to bring in paychecks too.

Wow, you take this seriously.  Do you know them personally?

I get that people make fucked up decisions and pickle their longterm financial freedom.  Lots of people do it, most don't go on TV and broadcast it to the general public.  I don't really care what other people do with their money, so I don't watch shows like this and know nothing about this family other than what I read in the article.

My issue is the overwhelming attitude that women are financial drags.

"How many wives does it take to be Un-Mustachian?"

"One."

Come on, guys!  Get it together.  There is world of women out there.  And most of us kick ass.  My husband would be the first to tell you that life is freaking dream, because he has a solid and happy wife at his side.  I work, I am careful with money, and I make gorgeous babies.  All of which, makes my husband a very happy man.

So, lighten up on women-are-shit speak.

I wasn't addressing the women are drags attitude (but I do agree it's annoying) by the sexist joke in the title.

I used them as an example of ethical theory called care ethics in the ethics course I taught, so did a little research on them.  I watched a few episodes, was horrified enough to go online and learn more info re their finances and health care etc (could care less about their sexual habits).  It bothers me when I learn about people that are abusing this system (as I feel they are) and are then watched by America, so once I learned about it, I stopped watching (plus I had enough info for the course).  I haven't seen an episode in ages, but I knew generally they had had bankruptcies, food stamps etc, so as I stated in my post, did the research just then because to get the specific details that I posted (eg year & number of bankruptcies).  I provided the information to educate you and others that were relying on just the article for information, as I felt it was misleading.
