How many miles did you drive in 2015?
« on: January 01, 2016, 11:33:32 AM »
My total mileage driven in 2015 was 4,618. It was split between two vehicles. 4,297 miles in my daily driver 2002 Taurus, and an additional 321 miles in my rust bucket back up and light hauler vehicle.

Both vehicles get about 18.5 MPG, so they burned a total of about 250 gallons of gasoline.

Due to vehicle breakdowns and a drop off at a mechanic shop I also bicycled about 30 miles in five trips to avoid cab fares.

How about you?

We drove approximately 9000-10000 miles for the year. We have rental properties in a nearby town that we go to often. Also took a few driving trips and we are fairly rural where we live. In the summer my husband and I do lawncare which adds some miles up to. We have a 2008 ford escape 4cyl and a 1987 chevy truck for the lawn work we do.

3500 mi here, averaging about 30 mpg.

I only use my car about once a week, plus a few longer trips to see family and vacation/backpacking excursions.

I have no idea (I moved and left cars behind), but I've put about 4500 miles on my east coast car since Oct 25th...lots of trips from NJ to NH/ME to see family.

About 1600 on my car.  As a rough guess, Dh probably put 5000 on his.

Well done. I used to enjoy driving, but lately it is just a chore.

At a guess, a bit over 6000. I didn't note how many k's were on the clock at the start of 2015. :)

Hmm, good question. I'm not entirely certain what my mileage was at the beginning of 2015, but I checked an old maintenance receipt from February and I was at 125,500 miles, so let's say 125k even for 1/1/15. I'm now at just over 127k, so around 2,000 miles for the year.

Edit: 127,450 miles on 1/1.

I bought my Ford Ranger in January with about 145,000 miles on it.  It's now January again and it has just a tick over 150K, so I suppose around 5,500 miles

I think less than 1000 miles. I traveled 80% for work the first half of the year so work would pay for transportation to/from the airport and I'd work from home the rest of the time. The second half of the year I traveled 40% for work and worked from home 60%. I just did occasional trips to the downtown office, events, etc, but I really hate driving in Los Angeles and think that it's the most dangerous thing I do regularly so I avoid it as much as possible.

Thousand. I'm wondering if I should get a hybrid. (I currently get 25.6 mpg for whomever would like to compute the gallons used.)

At least 15,000.  I drive for work. I have a Prius so a little less guilt. But in 2016 I am reassigned to where I live. I am much happier about that and the drive time (productivity and kids).

Around 650-700 gallons (simple math... divide miles by mpg)

Our one car put a little over 8k miles on. This is with my wifey shuttling the 2 kids around as well. Definitely looking to improve on this in 2016 as we had a new born in 2015 that will fit better in the bike trailer this year.

The car started the year with 301 miles and ended the year with 3,208 miles.
I don't bike to work, I just plan errands around my normal commute.

I don't have exact numbers, but probably around 11,000-12,000.  This is down from 15k each of the past two years.  I'm working on it, but I have a long way to go.  It helps that I sold the old house so I don't have to go across the city to check on it/prep it anymore.  I get about 25mpg, boo.

I don't keep close records, but if I had to guess, somewhere around 20-25k.  A very unmustashian commute accounted for around 17k of it.  Thankfully most of it was done in a Corolla that gets 35+mpg.  My wife, on the other hand, probably had 15-20k in a Sienna that only gets around 20-24 mpg. Hoping to remedy both the commute and the Sienna shortly!  Given that we live in a rural area and like road trips, we will probably always be on the high end of the MMM spectrum; however the LCOL area makes up for good bit of it, especially when gas is under $2 gallon.

Zero. Public transportation, bike share (when I worked in the city) and using my own bike from home to all points in our tiny mini-city 'burb. That'll probably change a bit this year as we'll be visiting family at some point and a rental car will feature prominently in that, but I like having one whole year on the books with ZERO CAR TIME.

Around 20k on my vehicle and around 8-10k on the wife's. We made two 1500 miles moves, for one. Also since I travel for work to temporary assignments (a few months to a year) and live in Rv parks, often the closest park is 10-20 miles from work and 5-10 miles from town.

I had one job a couple years ago where my work and the gym were about 40 miles apart. Drove soooo many miles then. Fortunately work paid for 100% of my gas and gave me a $650/mo truck allowance.

6,775 per metromile. A lot of that was work, which I billed mileage for.

27,000 +/- Tanks ranged from 15mpg to 20mpg. I would say average of around 17mpg. Not great... About 1,600 gallons of diesel.

But, no rent/mortgage or utility bills.

I would say combined we totaled under 5k with all 3 vehicles. DH is FIREd and his only "job" is mowing our rentals lawns and maintenance calls. He does go visit his parents who are about 22 miles each way away. We did some in state camping. I commute a whole 4.7 miles to work each way and carpool on top of that. It might be more like 3k miles...

It is not much for sure.

We drove 4500 miles in our primary car and probably around 600 miles in our 2nd car so total of ~5000 miles.

~10000. Used to drive 15000.

I work from home mostly, but it isn't much help. Gym is kind of far away, and most friends live 30 miles away to the city. I could always live in the city and drive ~3000 miles, but its not really worth it in st louis. Living expenses would just go up if it is in a neighborhood that is not high-crime.

I don't enjoy driving because the negativity on the road stresses me out. It is a goal of mine to someday live somewehre where I can go completely car-less and use bike, walk, public transportation, zip-car and other options.

Do you pay camping fees or stay in places like the Wal-Mart parking lot?

I live in my camper 8 months a year. 6 months are playing music, hitting most every major metro area. During that time, I stay at many Wal-Marts, and Sam's Clubs. But sometimes, just on the street. 2 months a year I spend in the National Forest camping for free while hunting.

Last year I did stay at a campground for 2 nights. It was 110F out, and I really needed A/C.

We are driving much less than we use to. 2012 we drove 65,000 miles. I streamlines our schedule and cut down to just one vehicle.

8k total on 3 cars, 2 drivers  (one necessary family vehicle, 2 toys)
Split 50/50 vaca/general driving
Feels like too much but it's been difficult to reduce.

5k on the commuter bicycle. 2015 was the last year my employer subsidized cycling; they pulled the plug on the program :(

I did the maths to convert the numbers from km and l/km to miles and MPG.
Result:
9,320 miles at around 33.6 MPG.

Quite a lot of miles for someone who walks to work and goes (not drives) shopping.

That is mainly because I live in a long distance relationship (350 mi one way) and our summer holiday was a road trip: 7 countries in 15 days (in Europe - some of the countries are quite small).
I try to drive at an economical speed, usually under 80 mi/h. Most European countries do not even allow higher speed anyway. And in Germany most of the time the autobahns are very crowded - a natural brake. That makes it easy to keep the gas consumption low.

About 15,000 on the little car and 27,000 on the big car (household of two).  About 7000 of that is commuting, and the bulk of the rest is travel for work.

But damn, that's a lot of miles.  Luckily are cars are old as sin and cheap to drive (reliable 90s cars that a normal person would throw away).

I would guess I logged around 20k miles and DH close to 12k. I drive a lot for work, and am reimbursed. Luckily my daily driver is a 2004 Corolla, and his is a 2005 Matrix.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
