Simply do not buy the class ring. He will not wear it longer than a year. It will not be cool in college to wear your high school class ring
Nobody wears a high school ring for long.
My parents were generous and made me an offer: They would buy me one class ring, either high school or college, my choice. I chose college ;)
Should have gotten it a size bigger....
