What unknown yet significant money saving tips do you have?
« on: December 01, 2016, 08:09:10 PM »
Recently we bought a brand new Ford car.

In browsing their site, I got a popup offer for "Ford Private Cash" which turned out to be a $1k savings (since we were already planning on purchasing, was a nice surprise). Googling it made me realize this is a thing, you can apparently also request brochures or something to get them.

What other unexpected but significant savings do folks have?

If I have to buy something, which is planned and researched first. It must be onsale or be purchased with a coupon.

Check rewards programs on American Express, Costco, AAA to see if they have discounts for what you're buying.  I sold my first house using a realtor that was assigned through the AAA program.  I ended up getting $5K check 1 month after the sale for using that realtor, and she did a great job.

Buy the same model 3 yr old lease back Ford car with 36k miles for 30% off... New cars are actually a riskier purchase mechanicaly too as most problems show up very early and very late in a cars useful life.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
