Those who achieved FIRE: what is your housing situation like
« on: January 25, 2014, 06:50:29 PM »
What kind of dwelling do you live in: house, apartment, shared apartment/house, tiny-house, RV, etc?

Do you stay in one place, or do you live a nomadic life?

Do you live in a big city, medium city, a small town, in the middle of nowhere?

If you have land with your house/etc, how much?  A small fraction of an acre, a few acres, a few dozen acres?

You might be seeking insight from the wrong parameters.

I live in a climate I like, with activities I love, among cultures I enjoy, next to people I can get along with.  Most importantly above all, I'm 30 minutes from the south shore, 40 minutes from the North Shore, 45 minutes from Makaha, and an hour from Queen's.

To satisfy those conditions we ended up in a 2400 sq ft house where we spend 9-11 months/year, in a small bedroom community, with a lot of about 15,000 sq ft.  But that's just what happened to meet our criteria at an affordable price.

Live in SF Bay area in what I call a "ratty yard sale house." We bought it half price (for cash) from some crazy people (as the neighbors described them).  Spent a year fixing it and cleaning up their mess. Found a car axle and 50 beer cans in the briars.

It's in a great neighborhood. 1 block to the subway (BART), and next to a great bike path.

We basically got a good deal on some dirt. It just happens to come with a 950 SQ Ft house.

We downsized to a 1400 sf house with an average yard. It is just right for the 2 of us. We did have to get rid of a bunch of stuff but do not miss it at all.
