My SO is able to draw social security anytime. We have a baby and possibly another one on the way. My understanding is that our kid/s and I (as caregiver to eligible kid/s) would each be eligible to receive up to 50% of his full retirement age payment.

Does anyone have experience with this or advice to offer? In the end it's a calculation and the numbers will decide for us, but I want to make sure I understand how it works.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
