I am feeling an intense need lately to be with people who have similar goals IRL (FI, self-employment, etc.). I am not sure where/how to find my tribe locally. I am on a fantastic group of neighborhood moms but I found a running buddy there and we fell apart quickly due to scheduling problems. So I guess that's one lesson learned, be clear and explicit about when, where, etc. the group would meet. At this point I am most interested in meeting with other women, specifically other mothers.
Does anyone have experience with a group that is part support, part encouragement, accountability by virtue of existing/pleasant pressure of having something good to report each time we gather - not by people facepunching or calling each other out on failures?
Whenever I've tried to start groups that are social/informal but with a common purpose they tend to sputter and croak within a few meetings, so I know that the first get togethers are crucial and must meet whatever needs people are bringing to the table. However, sometimes in trying to do that I've made the purpose too broad and then it meets no one's needs.
Have you been involved in such a group? What made it successful, and what would you have changed about it? Did you pay for the group or was it something that formed organically? How long did it last? Other ideas or suggestions?
