Anyone have a bike I could rent or buy in Tampa
« on: January 22, 2015, 09:31:43 AM »
Mustachians,

I will be travelling to Tampa for work for the month of February.  I would like to buy or rent a bike (I have family down there so I could take the bike to their house if I bought it) to get around from work to my hotel and dinner etc.

If anyone has a decent road bike that I could get around on that would be awesome.  Ill be staying in the Westshore area by the international mall and would need to either 1. have you deliver it to me 2. be close enough (within 10-20 miles) for me to pick it up and ride it back.

Let me know your price and what you have, pictures would be great

Sorry I'm not in Tampa. But..... if you have not heard of or tried Spinlister.com "like airbnb for bikes", you might try it. They have most of the US and severeal international cities covered.   I am in Arlington, VA and have been renting out a couple of spare bikes on this service for a couple of years.  A perfect "mustachian idea"  saving money for rentees and a dollar or two for the renter.

Unleash- If it will stay together and get me like 6 miles each way every day I dont care.  And if it wont be super difficult to ride

city bikes rents for like $350 a month :( so I figured I could just buy one and take it to my families house after

And I think Ill checkout spinlister!

You could always try Craig's list -- http://tampa.craigslist.org/search/bik

Seems like you could find one for $80 for what you want and resell it for $30.  Haven't been to Tampa, but that would seem to be a very dangerous city to bike in?

It was my sons bike (he’s 6ft btw) and he hated it! Its an off the shelf heavy monstrosity purchased new at Dicks sporting goods.  You are welcome to it. PM me for details. Craigslist could be your friend here.

I live (and bike) in Tampa, and it's a mixed bag.  Out where I am (by USF) there are some very bikable areas, but there are some dangerous areas, too.  Google isn't so useful re: bike routes, either, because it tends to favor the large streets with (largely ignored) dedicated bike lanes while ignoring smaller streets that (in my opinion) are much safer.  I don't know Westshore at all, though, so I can't speak to any specific routes.

Unleash-  thats awesome of you- but I can't actually get to you to pick it up.  So you would have to drive (gasp) to drop it off.  And I dont want to make you drive all that way for nothing

FL Biker-

I used google for routes and also did some street view to check it out.  About half my route to work looks like theres a walking/bike path.  The rest should be side streets.  Plus my ride to work is only like 3-5 miles so thats nothing
