This is a simple poll (and I am wondering about putting ads on my site), has anyone ever clicked on an ad or product recommendation on MMM?  You can discuss your answer in the thread.

Trying to keep this simple.  MMM is much bigger than I'll ever hope to be, so I just wanted to throw up a poll here to have access to a bigger sample.

I like personal finance blogs, but the ads are sometimes invasive and the take up a lot of my tiny screen when I'm mobile.  I'm still thinking that the income is not worth the hassle and maybe distracting message.  FWIW, I posted the same question in my blog (http://escapevelocity2020.com/2014/02/monetization/) and had a mostly positive response that ads are fine and bloggers should get some income, but I'm still not sure if I'll do it.

I have adblock on my laptop (and enjoy YouTube much more for it), but no adblock on my phone.

Adblock.
This. Make it an option in your poll, you'll be amazed.

Good point, I hope you are right that I'm surprised, I didn't realize it was mainstream

Same here.  That said, I will still see e.g. amazon referral links.

If I like a forum I will purposely visit Amazon through their referral link (I've done this for ERE before).

I suppose if I needed a new CC I might use MMM's referral link.

I'm not sure if Adblock blocks adwords -- they are unobtrusive so I wouldn't really mind.

You could try the tipjar thing ERE uses too.

ERE's tip-jar post was so convoluted I gave up before digesting the info.  It sounded like tips did not necessarily make it to the recipient ,but it was otherwise a good concept.  Certainly did not go mainstream.  I bought Jacob's e-book instead.

I don't even notice the adds...just skip right by them like turning a page in a book.
