Immersion blenders have their use. I use mine to smooth out cooked applesauce, crushed tomatoes, and to hide greens better as a second step in making smoothies. They're useful because you're blending in a pot, not getting a big thing like a blender or processor dirty.
But they aren't a replacement for either a full blender or food processor.
