This week my orange tree dropped tons of leaves, there is some branch die back, and today I saw a collar of black mushrooms sprouting around the base of the trunk. This is in a wet spot and it’s been a wet year. I can do a little to mitigate the wetness (normally not a problem, but I had added some hanging pots that get automatic watering. There was also some flooding in this part of the garden due to the weather and topology).
The tree has been healthy and extremely productive since I planted it 10-15 years ago. I have many mature trees and now I’m worried about oak root fungus spreading. Online local university agriculture advice says to cut it down and disinfect the tools and leave the area fallow for a year. Is it too soon for that (leaf drop and fungus bloom just happened this week) or will I regret not doing it right away?
