Where/how to buy kids' mattresses
« on: March 29, 2015, 02:17:05 PM »
We're in the market for a twin mattress for our four-year-old and I don't think we're up for springing for the $350 for a Tuft & Needle. (Didn't they used to make thinner, cheaper ones, too?)

The last twin we bought (currently in use by Little Brother) was about $165--it was a relatively high-end floor model being sold without the box spring at a big mattress store. Is that the way to go again, or are there other avenues to consider? I do want something that will last a while, but not at outrageous expense if possible.

My sister got a mattress from IKEA, she seems happy with it. And she's dirt poor so I'm sure it's inexpensive.

When I moved a few months ago, I checked out IKEA for furniture. My impression was that the stuff is generally both expensive and a bad value. I don't know about the mattresses specifically.

IKea mattresses on every bed in my house - no complaints about the quality. Price and comfort vary widely.

Amazon sells a foam mattress that comes rolled up and decompressed. Have used it for about 6 months w no complaint. Comfortable and cheap. Cannot be rolled back up though.

We recently purchased one from Big Lots for $100 for our son. It feels comfortable to us, from what little we actually lay on it. The kid seems happy with it.

We got the kid's bed and mattress from a company that sold out of a storage unit... not a nice sales floor and they had to order in the product we wanted, but they delivered it once it was in and we set it up. If we'd had a bigger vehicle at the time we probably could have gone and gotten it ourselves. I think that two mattresses (bunk beds) ran $200.

Our living room sofa/loveseat/ottoman and master bedroom queen mattress all came from Big Lots.  We haven't had any it for very long (about 2.5 years on the living room stuff and 6 months on the mattress) but zero complaints so far.

Does Costco have more in the store than they do online? They look pretty expensive online.
