Title: good rhetorics to convince for payback
Post by: schoenbauer on May 18, 2014, 02:30:20 PM
Dear Mustachians,

I'm  following this forum for about a year or so and, in general, consider myself to be on a good way....BUT:

I went to a party, a "friend" who came along didnt have enough money to get inside etc....so i borrowed this person a 2-digit euro amount (because i didnt have any smaller bills!!!). i had met this person about two times before. now this person went abroad and chances are likely i wont see him again. i wrote him a mssg to transfer me the money back (including my bank details) and he replied he would do it...that was 14 days ago and no money has arrived yet.

now i would like to know: what would u write him? or would you write him in general? and if you write, would you start to be rude....or very nice...or...? maybe any psychologists in here who know how to make ppl feel guilty (i know...mean me^^).

thanks so much for your help.

and lesson learned: borrow money only to close friends...whatsoever!

ps, im still a student and i would have to work for about 2 hrs to earn the amount of euros which i borrowed to him. and i dont like the idea of losing 2 hrs of my precious life to him! :) thx :)

Probably be best to just chalk it up as lost. I generally won't let people borrow money that I wouldn't mind if I never got paid back.

If you already asked him twice and he isn't giving it, then you are probably screwed.  Don't offer money you don't plan on giving up.  General rule for lending money.

Sounds like you paid for a life lesson...be grateful it wasn't more! if you can't afford it to be a gift, you shouldn't lend money. You might want to forget about getting paid back and move on - because it is costing you more then two hours of your time worked if you are stressing about it and letting it bother you - that is time you won't get back either.

Twitter and Facebook are your best options.  Publicly shame him into paying you back - make it funny rather than vindictive.
